The Pines at Lake Nantahala is nestled on a high moutain lake in the very western part of the Smokey Mountains. It is an ideal place to enjoy springtime in the mountains, escape the summer heat, marvel at the the beauty of autumn foliage, or for special gatherings at any time of the year. Pristine Lake Nantahala is one of North Carolina's hidden gems. Because most of the land surrounding the lake is owned by the National Forest Service, it offers a far less crowded and more relaxing get away experience than other lakes in North Carolina and North Georgia.
There are a variety of outdoor activities awaiting those who want to not only enjoy the lake but also explore the area. The Nantahala Outdoor Center is less than 30 minutes away for whitewater rafting and exciting zip lining. The Apalachian Trail is 20 minutes away for those who want to hike a portion of it the observation tower at Wayah Bald ( you can drive up to the tower if you prefer). There are several hiking trails at Apple Tree Campaground, a 10 minute drive away. You can rent a boat or paddle boards at Lakes End Grill and Marina.
Our custom built multi-level house is directly on the lake with a private dock and easy access from the main road. From our large decks, the views of the lake and surounding mountiains are spectacular. (We think of our home more as a mountian lodge than a cabin.) We designed our house to be a place where family and friends would gather over the years. We had the house built in 2006 ; and we lived there full time until 2018 when we moved to Louisville, Kentucky to be closer to our daughter and her family. It was then when we decided to rent it. (We do not use vacation rental services such as Airbnb or VRBO.)
Our spacious house will comfortably sleep up to 10 people. The first level has two bedoorms ( both queen size beds) and two full baths. There is also a study with a full size sofa bed.The second level has a bedroom with a king size bed and full bath, as well as a bunk room with two sets of bunk beds and an adjoing full bath. Both the first and second levels have great rooms, dining areas, full kitchens, large gas fireplaces, big screen T.V.s, and audio/visueal systems. The third level is our large multi-purpose room. It has a full size bed, a half bath, a regulation size pool/ping pong table, an eliptical machine, and a youth arcade basketball game. The first wo levels of wrap around decks hav eample seating and outdoor dining funiture. We have high speed internet (with WiFi) and Direct T.V.

My 87 year old mother, my brother and his girlfiend plus my husband, daughter and I enjoyed the Pines for four days at the end of June 2024. We were at Nantahala for my nephew's wedding. We rented boats, went for walks and had a great time in the area. My mother made it down to the dock several times so it can be done in your late 80's! We also hosted a larger family dinner one night which was lovely as the weather cooperated and everyone was on the porch enjoying the view over the lake. We walked to the wedding event area for rehearsal dinner and post wedding lunch so very conveniently located. The house is very well equiped and comfortable. Its a very peaceful place and a lovely place to visit.

We just stayed at The Pines for a second time, our first having been in 2020. The house provides more than ample accommodations for our two families of four each. The kids enjoyed the basketball game and foosball, and we adults loved the fully-stocked kitchen and the incredible view. You can catch the sunset from the top deck, and it is situated in a nice little cove that is close to the marina, where you can rent a boat. We spent our days on the lake tubing and knee-boarding, and our evenings watching the gorgeous sunsets. Highly recommend the 20-minute drive to Wayah Bald Fire Tower to any guests. It does require several miles on a one-way dirt road, so you have to watch for anyone coming in the other direction, but it is not a terribly steep drive and the view from the tower is stunning. Thank you to Victoria and Geoff for allowing other families to enjoy their beautiful slice of heaven on Lake Nantahala - we're already thinking about when we'll be back for our third visit!

We stayed at the Pines for 5 nights during our daughter's wedding. While there we hosted a birthday party for her brother and an extended family brunch / open house. The space was great for these events. The house easily accommodated the 7 of us, with plenty of privacy. The kitchen is stocked with the major and minor appliances as well as many extras like spices, bug spray, even cleaning supplies (we left what we brought for the next visitors). The view from the upper balcony is incredible. We asked the wedding guests to arrive in the region during daylight hours as the roads (and especially driveways) can be treacherous in the pitch black mountains. We had a wonderful time.

Our five couple family stayed here to attend a nearby wedding. Wonderful space, everything we needed, and the hosts were accommodating to requests. We spent lots of time on the back deck, the dock, and open kitchen area. Close enough to the river for some to take a whitewater excursion.

The house is very nice. My wife and I had the first-floor master, A son and wife had the other first floor bedroom, my other son, wife and 2 children had the entire lower floor which was PERFECT. They had their own kitchen, dining space and family room and laundry room! We did not use the lowest level with another bedroom and all the games. Our son got married at the event center across the road, so this location was perfect but don't count on walking to the event center!

Our family had a wonderful four-night stay in this awesome lakeside home. We were attending our youngest son's wedding, and the three-floor layout was perfect for our three families. One of our families has two young children, who loved the bunk room, the big stuffies, and all the games on the ground floor. The house is very well stocked with all a family needs for relaxing or adventure. We hope to return to enjoy all that this area has to offer. Thank you, Victoria and Geoffrey for sharing your beautiful home.

It was our 2nd year staying at The Pines, and it was again a wonderful vacation. There are lots of kids in our group and the house is set up perfectly to entertain all ages. Lake Nantahala is a beautiful destination and the views from this house are incredible. We hope to return again. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Becky and I were unfamiliar with the Lake Nantahala area. Fortunately for us, Lyndsay's sister Emma is well versed in helping with planning the wedding and the perfect place to stay. Our perfect place was The Pines. Our all stayed together and enjoyed the time together before and after Caleb and Lundsay's wek=dding. The Pines proveded us the absolute best opportunity to enjoy our family and make some lasting memories. All of us were so excited to see how spacious and beautiful the home was and the breathtaking views were storybook. We enjoyed the well appointed features of the home. It was a home - not just a beautiful house. It was close and convenient to the wedding venue and allowed us the perfect place to relax and play around the big event. Our grandchildren are between the ages of 2-11, so the private dock allowed them a happy, safe and private place to swim and enjoy themselves. Their parents and grandparents had a great time too!
Our brief stay at The Piens will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Thank you and God Bless,
Becky and Harry

Our stay at the Pines was wonderful. The view of the lake was breathtaking and was accessile from almost all rooms. Sunset over the lake was beautiful. The house was comfortable and spacious. There were many common areas for our large family to gather. The water in the lake was warm and inviting, and we made good use of the kayaks that were available to us. There were many beautiful hikes around and the view from Wayah Bald was amazing. I highly recommend a vacation to Nantahala in general and the the Pines at the Lake in particular. Enjoy!

The Lord provided beyond what we could even begin to think to ask for by providing your BEAUTIFUL cabin for us and our family to stay in. It provided the utmost of comfort, warmth, coziness, beauty in decor, views that are breath taking, relaxation, memories for our generation and the next! Another faith story to tell our kids and future generations.
Your home was clean; love the way it is decorated. Loved having the kayaks to go out on the lake in (one of my personal favorite things in life to do). The Lord Bless you and all the others who get the opportunity to be blessed bountifully in your home.
In Christ's abundant love,
Judy and Bob Nay and family

We have stayed at the Pines a few times now, and have fallen in love with this vacation rental. This house is one of the cleanest homes I have ever stayed in, by far. I am a Virgo and we are known as perfectionists of the zodiac. The view of the lake at sunset is exquisite. We look forward to sitting on the deck which overlooks the beautiful Nantahala Lake as the sun slowly sinks below the horizon. If it is cold out, we bundle up in blankets or sit inside in front of the ceiling to floor windows and turn on the big gas fireplace, and snuggle.
Each bedroom has a deck and view of the lake. There is a dock with two kayaks to use or one could swim in the pristine lake. Fall and winter are beautiful as well with the beautiful view of the changing trees in the Nantahala National Forest. There is a fully equipped kitchen and a large selection of movies and CDs. Love to come up to get away from the Florida Gulf Coast heat!

My family had a great vacation when we spent it in this beautiful home. It is such a peaceful location with a gorgeous view across the lake. The furniture is nice with a cozy, casual feel. The big fireplaces are nice during cool evenings and mornings. We enjoyed the well-appointed kitchen, cooking fresh local food and dining on the deck. Each day brought fun on the lake and enjoyable day trips to mountain towns . We plan to return as soon as we can.

This is a beautiful home in a gorgeous setting. And perfect for a large family reunion. We've had three here to date. THe house is designed in a way that allows for small and large group gatherings. THere are two distinct, spacious living areas - the main one on the first floor, and the second, one level down, includes a full kitchen. This made it possible for the family with young children to settle in on the early side while the adults kept the party going upstairs.
A third level features yet another bedroom with a half bath and a rec room. Our most recent gathering included a lively ping-pong tournament with ages 6-72 competing. Pool is also an option.
As a water person, I've enjoyed swimming across the lake and back many times; tubing behind a rented pontoon boat - laughing hysterically as the wave bumped me up and down; kayaking and exploring rock formations along the shore; and white water rafting in small boats called duckies at the nearby Nantahala Outdoor Center.
For hikers, there are many hiking trails in the area, including a protion of the Appalachian Trail. And daily exercise can be accomplished with a walk up the driveway onto the wooded road and back.
The view is extraordinary. And the decks offer a quiet space for morning coffee and reading as well as an outdoor dining area to accommodate the whole family. Whether inside or out, you can watch the sunrise and sunset. You can witness the ever-changing weather move as clouds make way for sun and rain bounces onto the water. Rainbows happen. Hummingbirds visit.
It appears that the owners - lovely people whom I've met - succeeded in designing a place to celebrate one another in a setting that celebrates the natural world.

We had the pleasure of spending a long weekend here in the fall and would go back in a heartbeat. The house is gorgeous: spacious, clean, bright, and with a view of the lake that will make your heart stop. The trees were bursting with fall color, so dining outside on the terrace that looks out onto the lake was heavenly. The bedrooms are comfortable (bunk beds for the kids, which they loved!) and since nights are pin-drop quiet, we all slept like babies. There is plenty to do on the lake (canoeing, swimming, though it is nippy!) and we took some lovely walks in the surrounding areas. For a peaceful getaway in the fresh mountain air, you cannot do better. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay and memories for a lifetime.

We have enjoyed staying here several times. This home is beautifully furnished and well-appointed to make for a very comfortable stay. There are great mountain hiking trails and mountain lake swimming with nearby places to rent boats and canoes. My favorite pastime however is enjoying the extraordinary Mountain View’s from multiple decks and rooms from within. The Pines offers large spaces where friends and family gather in addition to many quiet places to get away by yourself to enjoy meditating, reading, and relaxing.

There is a peace that passes understanding at this beautiful place! Don't know if it's the water or the mountain views, or both! Rooms are spacious and bedding is oh so comfortable. Feels like you're coming home for rest and relaxation. We would highly recommend this place to all families and couples needing a getaway.

This is a lovely and spacious mountain/lakeside retreat. The views and sunsets from the top deck make you feel as if you are on top of the world. Plenty of space for an extended family to spread out. Bonus- Lake Nantahala is clear, deep, and beautiful!

This house is the perfect place for a family reunion or multiple-family vacation. It has 2 levels which are complete with a kitchen, dining area, and fireplace. A third level is available and each level has an awesome deck all across the house. The many bedrooms make it convenient for any configuration of people; couples, singles, teens, and children. The view is always fantastic no matter the weather. Nearby there is white-water rafting, the John Campbell Folk School, shopping and eating in Andrews, Murphy, and Highlands. There are many hiking trails for any level of fitness. The Bartram Trail and the Appalachaian Trail intersect on Wyah Bald just a few miles away. The Calaboose Winery in Andrews brews their own beer and make wine from grapes growing alongside the historic stone jail building. This is a fun, relaxing place to stay.

My husband and I were fortunate to spend a long weekend in this absolutely amazing home. The house is clean, very comfortable and well furnished with lots of natural light. The view of the lake is so beautiful and peaceful. We loved sitting on the deck . It was such a relaxing experience. It is the perfect place for a large family gathering or a “girls/guys” get away. We will definitely return.

I rented this cabin for my family members to stay throughout the weekend of my wedding at a nearby venue. They really enjoyed the views, amenities, and solitude that the place has to offer. They loved it so much that they are already planning our next stay at this amazing location!
