A little background on my friend Tom. Tom graduated from university in 2015 with a degree in planning from a very famous architecture school. He has thus gone on to work major planning and development jobs for both the city of Cincinnati and Louisville. He is currently a senior planner in a major US city and has a great eye for architecture as well as topography. I was recently speaking with my friend and he was telling me about his summer vacation in Sevierville, Tennessee. First off I had no idea where or what Sevierville was when he brought it up. I will briefly recap some of the truly amazing experiences Tom had while on this trip. The first notable story I recall him telling was about an afternoon he spent at Mills Park playing frisbee golf. This park is on the side of a mountain providing truly breathtaking views as you play through its eighteen holes. After hearing about this I was intrigued and asked him what else he experienced on his vacation. He went on to tell me that he found the topography of the area very unique. He told me that most places that have mountainous terrain generally build businesses and housing on the top or bottom of the hills and or mountains. This is not the case in Sevierville. "In Sevierville, they have many unique restaurants, bars, and cabins built into the mountainsides. By doing this these businesses offer a truly unique view of the surrounding areas without making you feel as though you are so far away from everything, like people do when they look down from atop a mountain or hillside. I then asked him what his favorite part of Sevierville was. He responded "It's so close to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge that I was able to head into town enjoy the vast retail options, delicious restaurants, and of course the moonshine, but then when evening hit I was able to able to head back to my cabin in Sevierville with my friends and we were able to relax, enjoy gorgeous woodland views, and were not bothered by the large crowds and all of the hustle and bustle of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge." This was particularly convenient for Tom seeing as though he was in the area for a bachelor party and the guys wanted to be able to experience the tourist attractions of the major areas, but also to escape back to their private cabin area and enjoy a few adult beverages without worrying about bothering other vacationers. As we were wrapping up our call Tom said one final thing that stuck with me. He said "Sevierville, Tennessee is truly the best of both worlds, from its proximity to the major tourist attractions to the ability to escape the crowds by heading into woods and your cabin which is in a very private secluded area. Plus the average rates in Sevierville are much cheaper than the more well-known tourist areas. Needless to say, after hearing Tom recount the truly spectacular vacation he had in Sevierville, I know where I will be vacationing next!
